Scholarships
Shepherd’s highest funding priority is its Endowed Merit Scholarship, which provides $100,000 and above to create competitive scholarship packages for prospective students to attract talented young artists. To apply for a merit scholarship, you must still complete all forms listed on the Costs and Financial Aid section.
Further, Shepherd is committed to providing financial assistance to students as “painlessly as possible.” You can find application instructions for financial aid here and, also, a direct link for applying for FAFSA to maximize opportunities for receiving financial aid.
Is Shepherd Right for Me?
Shepherd is located in Houston, Texas, the fourth-largest city in the United States with an approximate population of 1.9 million. As a result, students at Shepherd get a traditional university campus set in a thriving metropolis.
The campus itself includes 50 major buildings, the earliest buildings conceived by the architect, Ralph Adams Cram, in a revivalist style based on the medieval architecture of Southern Europe characterized by red tile roofs and elaborate detailing.
There are also ample opportunities to connect and gain experience from the city’s many cultural offerings, which include more than 500 cultural, visual, and performing arts organizations; 75 art galleries; five major museums; and resident companies in opera, theater, symphony, and ballet.
Although life in Texas might not be for everyone, keep in mind Houston is one of the youngest, coolest, and most diverse cities anywhere in the world. Need proof? Houstonians are known for turning their cars and houses into art; one local decided to side his entire house with 50,000 flattened beer cans! You can find a great article about Houston in the Huffington Post.
P.S.
For Shepherd and many other schools, the application process can be confusing and difficult to navigate. There are many parts to understanding how to truly and successfully succeed in the audition process.
