One of the most notable and well-known trumpeters in the entire world, Mark Gould is the pre-eminent faculty member for trumpet at two of the leadings schools for trumpet performance, the Manhattan School of Music and the Juilliard School. Mark Gould was the principal trumpet for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra from 1974 to 2003, sustaining with noted excellence a nearly thirty year tenure in that position. He was also the trumpeter for over 35 “Live From Lincoln Center” recordings under the baton of James Levine, several of which won Grammy awards. Mark Gould holds a concurrent teaching position at another excellent college for brass studies, the Manhattan School of Music. Other notable faculty members at Juilliard include Raymond Mase, a Juilliard trumpet professor who is a member of the esteemed American Brass Quintet and the principal of the New York City Ballet Orchestra.

5. Eastman School of Music – Rochester, NY
Notable Faculty: James “Jim” Thompson
Widely acknowledged as one of the foremost teachers of orchestral trumpet performance in America, Professor James Thompson, former principal trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, heads an impressive studio of young talent at one of the nation’s top schools for brass performance pedagogy. A regular clinician, his teaching experience includes presenting master classes all over the globe, as well as playing guest principal trumpet to some of the greatest orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic. A sought-after teacher with just a small number of studio spots open each year, acceptance to his facility is not a light honor.

Notable Faculty: Michael Sachs
Principal trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra, Michael Sachs is an academic and excellent tutor in the field of classical trumpet performance. Trumpet alumni of the CIM brass program include Ryan Anthony (formerly of the Canadian Brass), and famed session musician Chuck Findley. With access to resources offered by faculty, including opportunities to work with one of the most renowned symphonies worldwide, the Cleveland Orchestra, trumpet students at CIM are afforded excellent opportunities to master their noble and difficult instrument to a level few trumpeters could surpass.
